Triangle-based Kurt Vernon, MD, the GI Guy, is one of 5 locations nationally to utilize the Fuse™ Full Spectrum Endoscopy™ technology for colon cancer detection.
It’s that one particular health exam you push to the back of your head until your 50s––your colonoscopy exam. The idea of the procedure might sound scary at first, but it is typically painless and can be vital to your health. An endoscopy is performed during your colonoscopy, which refers to looking inside your large intestine with an endoscope. Luckily, new technology is making colonoscopy exams more effective than ever. Fuse, or “Full Spectrum Endoscopy”, offers the most innovative endoscope technology in the last 20 years with its’ latest advancement, Fuse™ Full Spectrum Endoscopy™. It removes the “blinders” and enables your physician to detect a significantly higher number of pre-cancerous polyps, thus, greatly reduces the number of pre-cancerous lesions missed by standard, foreword viewing endoscopes. A recent multi-clinical trial in the US, Europe and Israel, showed standard, forward-viewing endoscopes missed 41% of pre-cancerous lesions, or adenomas, while the Fuse system missed just 7%. After 28 adenomas were found using standard, forward-viewing endoscopes, another 20 were found by Fuse. In the end, Fuse had an incremental find rate of 69% over what standard, forward-viewing endoscopes found. Fuse is unique in that it gives endoscopists a wide, 330 degree view, while standard, forward-viewing endoscopes only provide up to 170 degrees of forward vision. Fuse overcomes the limitations of standard, forward-viewing endoscopes and allows endoscopists to see almost twice the anatomy, thus detecting a higher number of potentially pre-cancerous lesions.
The design is unique in that it features cameras at the tip as well as on the sides of the scope providing your physician with a panoramic 330 degree view of the colon. A procedure with Fuse is exactly the same experience as a regular procedure, the only difference being the enhanced field of view seen by your physician. Not only is it more effective, and the most advanced, Fuse does not cost more than a standard colonoscopy and is covered by your insurance.
